Our Featured Artist for November

|
Milyn King
"Icicles at the Beach"
|
|
Blue Skies Gallery is pleased to announce our featured artist for the
month of November 2008.
|
|
Hampton Glassworker Milyn King steps
aside from her normal venue of handmade glass jewelry and functional
glass to re-visit memories of Alaska and the wonderful icicles she often
saw hanging from the eaves at Elmendorf Air Force Base when she was
a new USAF spouse in 1982.
|
King’s husband was assigned to Langley AFB in 2001, and they bought
a house in Hampton in 2002. She began working as a lampworker
in 2003; joined Blue Skies Gallery in 2005; and has received excellent
instruction from renowned glass teachers from all over the country.
After her husband retired in 2007, King has been focusing on the unique
creative opportunities afforded by working with the magic and mystery
of sculpting hot glass.

Her handcrafted icicles vary from naturally dripped to spiraled, twisted
and elegantly formed. Each piece is a unique work of art created
by manipulating molten glass while allowing centrifugal force and
gravity to form shapes. Icicles range in length from 4 to 12
inches and are priced from $9.00 to $35.00. While enjoying the
icicle show, you can also see a selection of King's jewelry featuring
original sculptural or formed focal beads paired with woven or strung
seed beads, Kumihimo, Chain Maille, or wire work. Jewelry and
functional art items like wine stoppers, fan pulls and pens are priced
from $12.00 to $300.00.
Don’t miss this opportunity to visit “Icicles at
the Beach” and to enjoy the creations of Milyn King whose motto is:
“Hot glass is cool stuff!”
