| Collaboration with
Hampton School System To Promote Gifted Youth |

Blue Skies Gallery
is teaming with Hampton City Schools to host an opening and
showing of works by elementary-aged gifted students participating in
the Excel Art program. The show opens Friday May 2nd
with an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30PM on May 8th.
The work will be on display through May 31st. |
| The show is entitled
Primary Expressions. The young artists will attend the
reception along with their parents, gallery affiliated artists and
school officials. Come meet a creative force of the future. |

Excel Art is a program
offered by the Department of Academic Advancement and Enrichment of
the Hampton City School System. The program identifies and
delivers enriched and accelerated discipline-based art instruction to
students “gifted” in the visual arts. |
Students participate in an
all-day pullout program in a mixed grade level classroom with students
from all over the city. Eligible students are bused to and from their
home school one day a week. The school division provides
transportation.

Gallery Offers Dialog To Promote Gifted Youth
Blue Skies Gallery
in conjunction with
Cynthia McAdoo-Davis
to host a gallery talk on
Promoting Gifted Youth Through the Visual Arts.
The talk will conclude the month long show entitled,
Primary Expressions. Ms. McAdoo-Davis is the
coordinator for the Department of Academic Advancement and
Enrichment’s program for gifted elementary-aged art students in
Hampton.
The
talk will address the characteristics of the gifted learner,
development of critical thinking skills, divergent problem
solving, and nurturing the visually gifted child. McAdoo-Davis is a
practicing artist and veteran art instructor on the Peninsula.
Gallery talk is scheduled for Thursday, May 29 at 5:00 pm.
