Jeanne Weaver paints full time at her Studio
on the Chesapeake Bay. Her day typically starts with a walk on the beach.
It is there where she often receives the inspiration for her paintings - the
warm golden sunlight glistening on an early morning silver bay, a dense fog
rolling in or perhaps a thunderstorm on the horizon. All are potential paintings.
She keeps her little pocket camera and sketch book close at hand to capture
whatever may spark an interest at any particular moment. Stacks of images
and note filled sketches fill her desk waiting to be transformed into a water
color study to be used later in an oil painting. Some will fill a small miniature
canvas, perhaps three and one half inches by five inches in size; others may
compose large canvases or an occasional finished watercolor painting.
Sometimes Weaver strays from her sea related work to paint subjects found
in her travels within the United States or abroad. Most recently she produced
thirty paintings from a two month visit to the country of Bangladesh.
Back from her walk on the beach, during warmer weather, Weaver may choose
to gather up her field kit of paints and head to an interesting area to paint
plein-air (definition: to paint from life outdoors). She may work on some
watercolor studies or compose a small miniature painting. Later in the morning
when the sun begins to fill her studio windows she will begin to work at the
easel. There are always two or more paintings in her studio waiting to be
worked on and completed. On any typical day Weaver will paint until the late
afternoon or early evening.
Weaver's world goes far beyond her studio. For over thirty years she traveled
with her husband and four children around the world living in eight different
countries on the continent of Africa and in Eastern Europe. These experiences
have molded her artistic interest and given her inspiration.
For the past five years her home on Grandview Island in Hampton has given
her the chance to spend time pursuing her dream of becoming a full time artist.
She still takes advanced classes, works various commissions and helps to manage
and run Blue Skies Gallery which she co-owns. In other words, Weaver’s lifelong
interest in art is now her way of life.
