Brenda Musser’s love for art was evident at a very early age, demonstrating natural talent and ability with a gifted eye for color composition. As a child, one of Brenda’s favorite hobbies was making and selling jewelry using a variety of small shells. She is accomplished in decorative painting, and since moving to Virginia in 2000, Musser has enjoyed the expressionist form of painting in acrylics on canvas. Brenda’s work was recognized with an Honorable Mention award at the Hampton Arts League Open Members in 2005 for one of her floral compositions. Since working in a local bead shop, Musser’s love for jewelry making evolved very quickly to advanced beading techniques, including off-loom bead weaving such as Ndebele and Peyote, both ancient forms of beading which originated with the early Egyptians and Native Americans who beaded their clothing as well as objects to be admired in their homes. Taking it a step further, Musser blends her instinctive knowledge of color with her technical skills to weave Peyote in Free-Form which gives Peyote a structural shape, then embellishes each piece with crystals, pearls, gold or silver and other fun enhancements. “I’ll give my jewels for a set of beads…” -- William Shakespeare |
