Born in Connecticut, Milyn King attended schools with progressive art programs. Challenging the School Board, she became the first girl to take “Shop” classes on the East Coast. She attended college as an Industrial Arts major, became dissatisfied, withdrew, and entered the School of Hard Knocks. She earned a B.S. degree while traveling the country using various creative mediums to meet and interview people. King is a loner with a bold presence in public and a quiet nature at home. She yearns for discipline yet follows a whimsical and synchronistic muse. Her mind is busy and inventive, supporting her work to express the many facets of her history and personality. Her current favorite art mediums are hot glass, known as Lampworking, from which she makes beads and small sculptures, fiber cording necklaces using Kumihimo techniques, off-loom bead weaving for necklaces and structural elements, sterling silver wire work and Chain Maille designs for necklaces and supports for her focal glass work, as well as explorations created with Precious Metals Clay. Creativity is a gift, a challenge, a lifestyle and a therapy. To King, an artist is one who thinks artistically, and there are many types and levels of art. Her work has been favorably received in shows and galleries in the Tidewater area. You can see and learn more about Milyn King's creations at www.sheglass.com |
