Jim Dees loves to create art that evokes a deeply personal response--from poetic treatments of Venice, where he studied in 2003, to romantic landscapes of Ireland and Spain, where he traveled in 2004.
His surrealistic water media collages and abstract paintings further push the envelope of both technique and message. Dees works in pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolor, acrylic and, most recently, oil. He is deeply indebted to his instructors Phyllis Greenway, Cheng-Khee Chee, Carole Barnes, and Skip Lawrence.
Dees' work has won numerous awards throughout the Hampton Roads area, and in 2006 he was honored with a one-man show at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center in Hampton.
He is an owner of Blue Skies Gallery, president of the Virginia Watercolor Society and an art instructor at Peninsula Fine Arts Center.

Whether painting portraits, flowers, animals or his acclaimed fish, Jim Dees strives to convey something transcendent about the subject.
