Sharon Charity has created portraits since childhood which seek to reveal the inner life of her subjects. Growing up in Hampton, she captured her schoolmates in portraits that surprised and delighted them and won the praise of her instructors. Creating portraits remains for her a way of getting to know others and of revealing who they really are. Charity is as self-taught artist with a mastery of technique and a remarkably straightforward and sensitive style. She prefers to work with graphite on paper of which she says, "Black and white shows the beauty and depth of one's features." She enjoys exploring new themes and learning more about herself through her work. Displaying her work in galleries and shows has become an increasingly important part of that process. Charity's work received an honorable mention in Hampton's Romance on the River Art Show in 2008. Portrait commissions are welcome.
